FSSAI has joined hands with CHIFSS (CII-HUL Initiative on Food Safety Sciences) with the purpose of driving activities related to science based food safety in the country, to strengthen protection of consumers and create an innovative environment for the industry.   This pioneering partnership plans to promote collaborations between Industry, Scientific Community, Academia, Key Opinion Formers and Domain Experts with FSSAI to co-produce food safety as a shared responsibility.

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between FSSAI and CHIFSS on 24th June, 2016 on the occasion of the launch of the CHIFSS.  This pioneering initiative will drive and disseminate food safety on science based risk analysis in India and work towards improving food safety through fact and data based technical briefs, FSMS guidance documents and on-line training programs.

Scope of Work for FSSAI-CHIFSS Initiative on Food Safety Sciences

With the aim of accomplishing a foods operations regime in India, which embodies the principles of food safety sciences and is positioned on risk based food safety approaches, activities related to the following areas of work, will be undertaken:

  1. Delivery of FSMS Plan Documents for 8 categories. These could include sectors like Food Service (e.g. Restaurants, Catering and Sweets in Halwai Shops) and Food Manufacturing (e.g. Beverages-Fruit based and Ready to Eat Poultry and Meat Products)
  2. Design of National Risk Assessment Models along with Risk Management and Risk Communication protocols for addressing any public health food safety issues, justify or evaluate alternate methods, technology and inspections
  3. Develop On line versions of Training Programs on Regulations, GHP, GMP and ISO 22000 to reach out extensively to Food Business Operators and Institutions associated with food safety through education and training.
